It is with pleasure that the Reggio Emilia Provocations Committee invites you to join us on the 2026 Study Tour to Reggio Emilia, Italy. As a member of the International Network of Reggio Children, we are organising a delegation from New Zealand to travel to Italy and experience firsthand the Reggio Philosophy and Educational Approach to teaching and learning within their Preschools and Infant-Toddler Centres.
The Study Tour week in Reggio Emilia is a truly wonderful professional learning experience. Participants arrive from all over the world with a host of questions and often leave with many more. Reggio Emilia Provocations New Zealand has been organising these yearly study tours since 1995. While the general outline of the tour is known, many elements remain variable and present delightful surprises.
You will attend plenary session presentations from Reggio Children representatives, local political leaders, and daily presentations from pedagogisti, atelieristi, and teachers who work at the Loris Malaguzzi International Centre, as well as in Reggio Emilia's Infant-Toddler Centres and Preschools. There will also be opportunities to engage in Atelier workshops that are sure to provoke your thinking and challenge your pedagogical practice.
During the Study Tour, you will have the chance to visit an Infant and Toddler Centre (0-3 years) and a Preschool (3-6 years) within the municipality of Reggio Emilia, as well as the Primary School and Preschool classrooms at the Loris Malaguzzi International Centre. Additionally, you will be offered the opportunity to explore the REMIDA Creative Recycling Centre located in the city of Reggio Emilia.
It is inspiring to be part of a worldwide delegation of teachers, pedagogical leaders, principals, and academics on the Reggio Emilia Study Tour. Participants come from as many as 50 countries, bringing a rich diversity of experiences and perspectives. Hands down, the Reggio Emilia Study Tour is the best professional learning opportunity any teacher or leader can undertake. Reggio Children are very open and willing to share their journey. Throughout the week, there will be countless opportunities to discover something new, encounter challenges that provoke your thinking, and find moments that evoke deep emotions as you navigate through encounters, reflections, challenges, and dialogues.
Testimonial from a past participant
"I loved my tour to Reggio Emilia. The course was without a doubt a truly inspiring experience and I’m hoping to do the next level next year. The tour organiser always listened and responded to anyone’s wants and needs (and there were a few), had good local knowledge and found us some lovely authentic dining experiences in the evenings so it was fun to compare notes about the course and chat about how little Italian we could speak. We had a few laughs and met some great people. I was traveling alone from Christchurch so it was extremely comforting to be introduced to some other New Zealanders during my tour. I’d thoroughly recommend everything about the whole trip.”
